This puts things into perspective, doesn’t it?

Lucky Day
August 24th, 2009DIRECTED BY DUGAN O’NEAL from Dugan O'Neal on Vimeo.
I just LOVE The Yard Dogs Roadshow. Why? Because they are lovable! And cute.
Hailing from good ol’ San Francisco, California, they have one of the best nouveau-vaudevillian shows on the planet. Basically rock stars in that milieu actually. Talented musicians, burlesque dancers, magicians, fire eaters, sword swallowers, accordian players that tap dance upside-down, who name it! And stylish? They got the whole steam-punk ethic and look down pat. Of course, none of that is evident from this video. Did I mention they are contrarians of a sort?
“Lucky Day” was produced 7 months ago and is presented here now for your pleasure. Forget about all the wars and health care debates going on right now and simply enjoy this little piece of sunshine for a nice, lazy, hot August day!
Oracle Gathering: The Fountain photos
August 4th, 2009Last weekend was the 23rd and final Oracle Gathering. It was a sweet, intimate festival, a fitting conclusion to an eight year run of near mythic parties. The setting was magnificent. The people were kind and friendly. The music was danceable and spatial and sounded great – Filistine, Bluetech, Androcell and Pitch Black were highlights for me. The prayer-formance of “The Fountain” was moving and verged on trancendent. The daytime weather was hot and the river was cool. My good friend Lorenzo Hagerty was there to give a lecture about the Genesis Generation, visiting all the way from San Diego with his lovely wife Mary C and their friends from Ashland who I got to hang out with for a few hours, which was nice considering none of us are going to Burning Man this year.
Check out my gallery of photos from my visit to The Fountain.
If you are interested in finding out more background, visit the official Oracle Gathering website – they actually lost some money on the festival, so maybe you might want to order a deck of the Oracle cards or something from them.
One worthwhile note: judging by the evidence left on the ground Sunday night, the attendee’s adoption of the Leave No Trace ethic seems to have been near 100% .

Oregon Country Fair 2009
July 15th, 20092009 will go down as the 40th Anniversary of Oregon Country Fair and as the least dusty one as well. The Dust Abatement Plan of 2009 was a bit over the top on Sunday, when we were bombarded with thunder, lightning and heavy rain from about 10 am to 2pm. I have a video of the muddy aftermath posted on the Video page here. It was almost comical to watch the Grounds Crew spread bales of hay over the mud, often times skipping over some of the larger muddy spots to focus on higher trafficked areas. As usual the people were fantastic all week and the sauna was wonderful, even if the the weather was a bit cooler than usual. I have posted the photos here, in the Photos Section. All in all it was a fabulous year out there, one of the best ever, lots of magic happening for everyone…
Beloved Festival
July 4th, 2009The Second Annual Beloved Festival looks like it will sound fantastic.
Beloved will be featuring a stellar lineup of tribal and downtempo, ambient artists – a few that make me think a ticket purchase is not far away: Makyo, Beats Antique, Hamsa Lila, Sasha Rose, Karsh Kale, Banco de Gaia, Phuture Primitive, Obo Addy, and more than a few others…
This is the kind of festival that usually doesn’t attract too much mainstream media attention, and who knows what kind of advertising budget they have, so I figure mentioning them here is just the right thing to do. That and I love this kind of gathering of art and music and conscious peoples. It will be a bit like camping next to the Hookah Dome on the Esplanade at Burning Man 2008, except this time it will be in a blessed forest.
¡Muy rico!
June 26th, 2009Nickodemus – Sun People & Turntables on the Hudson
Happy Summer Y’all!!! Here’s a new release that will keep you feeling sunny by Brooklyn music artist/producer/dj extraordinaire Nickodemus. His website is here and his new album is named Sun People. I just love the way he blends the latin beats with the afrobeats with the reggae beats with the balkan beats with the arabic beats with the tropical beats ad infinitum.
